Cultural Blind Spots

Three cultural blind spots in the Church come to mind. One is the “unseeing eye”. For example, someone puts a roster together, but they only see (unintentionally) those of their own cultural group. Another (surely related) malady is difficult to describe. I might call it the “worldly eye”, which doesn’t see the activity of God’s Spirit in other people’s lives, and so they would seem like little more than dead wood. A third is that African cultures, in particular, may have a meditative way with them in meetings, while people of European stock want to expedite business. This can be an unfortunate mix, unless people really defer to one another.
