Atmosphere

The atmosphere on a Sunday morning can vary a great deal. There may be a lively buzz the moment one walks into Church -- or the atmosphere may be subdued, even dark. This morning the atmosphere was subdued, even before I spoke a word -- and it never seemed to “take off”. It’s strange how an entire congregation can be overcome by a certain spirit -- even, it seems, before they enter the doors. OBSERVATION: So what was it today? Was it the massive blackout that hit the city Friday and Saturday? Was it the rain? Was there an incident that I didn’t see? Was it something on TV? Did it have to do with something within the Church? It seems impossible to tell. But one thing is sure, and that is that a service is “a means of grace”, through which God does a special work.
