Lingua Franca

Here’s one of our Church groups about to sing at our Church Breakfast. What’s interesting here is that only one person in this photo speaks English as mother-tongue -- and yet English is the Church’s “lingua franca”. The languages represented in the photo are Lingala (3), Pedi (2), Afrikaans (2), Zulu, Korean, Schwyzersdütsch, and English. OBSERVATION: Language is a fascinating subject. Not only do the words differ, but so do the concepts/thoughts -- and Africa has some very interesting languages. No one-to-one correlation between languages exists.
