V., a woman in our congregation, called me this morning. She had shouted obscenities at the neighbours, she said, and they were waiting for her to emerge from her front door, so that they could “donner” her (beat her up, in our language). I said, “V., I have commitments all of this morning -- and if they DO donner you, their chips are up.” I suggested that she should get me their contact details, and I’d be willing to try to resolve the situation with all concerned. I also reminded her to entrust the situation to God. OBSERVATION: I’m not the police, and this didn’t seem as urgent as some situations where I would indeed drop everything. She seemed settled by our conversation.
