I have been driving a three-wheel single-cylinder diesel for a year now (pictured). Here's how it's been. I soon got used to the feeling of steering a barge. It has been absolutely reliable -- yet a little stubborn in colder weather, which is typical of primitive diesel engines. Typically for a Mahindra, it has picked up some rust. It saved me an estimated R13,000 ($1,600) in fuel over the year (compared with the average sedan). While it will not realistically go beyond 50km/h (30mph), this is seldom needed in the city. All in all, I have found the vehicle great fun to drive, not least useful, and on holiday / vacation I feel as though I have got far away, which is not a feeling that I have in a car / automobile. Also, I joke that I see caterpillars crossing the road. In the three-wheeler, one notices things one would never see in a car.
