Under Cover Of Charity

It often is the case -- in the Church, too -- that a miscreant's best cover is to pretend to be the opposite. An unfortunate case that I was involved in in ministry was a man -- always dapper -- regularly seen and heard in public -- who did charitable work for the elderly, and was highly commended for it. Yet apparently he abused them sexually. This came out in the end not so much through a specific event as through an accumulation of worrisome incidents. A home for the elderly called a meeting with two matrons, an attorney, and myself -- with the man concerned in attendance -- and obtained his agreement that he would not call again. OBSERVATION: (I prefer not to go into the detail of the incidents on a ministry blog.)
