Five Dangerously Ill

One expects that young people do not fall seriously ill. During the past half year, five young people I know have been dangerously ill -- three of whom I know (and knew) quite well. A young woman I knew died of kidney failure -- I blogged about this earlier in the week. A young man I know is now in Intensive Care with meningitis. Another young woman I know has Stage 4 AIDS. A teenage niece is in hospital with cancer. And another young woman was saved with open-brain surgery earlier this year (a craniotomy).

POSTSCRIPT: Unfortunately, three days after I posted this, the young man died. He had turned the corner, they said, and moved him out of Intensive Care.
