Fret Not Yourself

There is a popular verse in the Old Testament: "Fret not yourself because of evildoers" (Psalm 37:1). Yet what does it mean? That one shouldn't inflame oneself over them? That one shouldn't grieve over the injustices done? That one shouldn't worry about their getting away with it? That one shouldn't think that one is harshly dealt with? Those are all opinions of well known commentators. There may be another possibility: Deal with them. Without fretting. "They shall soon be cut down" (Psalm 37:2). OBSERVATION: A Canadian lecturer recently said to me excitedly that reading the Psalms in Africa made him see them in a whole different way. There are things one doesn't see until one is there.
