Hume's Guillotine

"I'm looking at this camera, but should I be looking at this camera? Perhaps I should be chasing mice instead." This is what one calls the fact-value distinction, in philosophy -- sometimes called Hume's guillotine. How do I know what to do? I wrote an introductory essay on the subject, announced it on my blog, but failed to provide a link. The essay is here: Fact and Value: The Way Ahead. I notice today that it has risen to no. 1 in Philosophical Investigations' Top of the Pops. However, this is a fairly flimsy achievement. It is only there because there was flimsy writing before it. OBSERVATION: Actually, it is a crucial subject.
