People sometimes ask me whether I have witnessed deathbed conversions. Yes, a few. These were not like the movies, where a dying person (for example) makes a statement to a priest. They were wonderful transformations that changed everything in people’s last days. But something that seems related, which I have also witnessed – which is deathbed repentance, or call it regret – is something awful, when people realise too late that it was all wrong. OBSERVATION: In theology, a distinction is made between repentance and regret.
