Inverse Cube Law

I completed tests on my magnetometer prototype this morning, on Table Mountain -- away from the magnetic "noise" of the city. This completes the research and development stage. It safely detects 3 nT or 30 microgauss, which is up to the yellow area on the (1998) chart on the right. You may click on it to enlarge. OBSERVATION: The inverse cube law means that, ultimately, massive increases in sensitivity mean only slight improvements in range. Say double the sensitivity of a magnetometer, and one may have gained only 10 mm range. Magnetometers which reach into the yellow area on the chart are very expensive.

POSTSCRIPT: Here's an alternative chart, published last year. It places my design near the cutting edge, while the chart above does not. (Since this post, I am down to 1.3 nT in a built environment).
