When diverse cultures meet -- and they may be very diverse -- I find that it really makes a difference when one assesses people in terms of gospel criteria. It provides the unity on which one can not only be equal, but be appreciative of one another, even treasure one another. If one doesn't have that, unity may fall apart, even within the Church -- or it may be difficult to progress beyond indifference towards one another.
