Tossed About

Ephesians 4:14-16 admonishes Christians not to be "tossed back and forth by the waves". It presents us with two causes of such tossing: the winds of teaching, and men's crafty scheming. In my experience, Christians are often quick to pick up the winds of teaching, yet are far more easily tossed about by crafty scheming: unable to recognise it, unable to discern what is going on, unable to take a meaningful stand. OBSERVATION: Perhaps one reason for this is that, to pick up scheming, one may require good spiritual discernment, while to pick up winds of teaching, one may merely need to apply one's mind. The first requires a higher level of spiritual maturity than the second.
