Critiquing Theses

I regularly check academic theses, mostly gratis for students in the third or developing world (I am also an examiner, for which I get paid). In the last month, I have checked two theses for free. It is a considerable effort -- to ponder a complex document, sometimes 200 pages long. Some thank me warmly, while others do not thank me at all. They got what they wanted and goodbye. And some continue to ask me for advice long after the thesis is complete and they have begun their respective careers. OBSERVATION: Developing world theses tend to have more problems than developed world theses, so that I am often able to make a substantial difference.
