I was reminded today of a visit I paid to East Germany, some 35 years after WWII. I decided to take a bus through the city. What struck me above all was the many buildings that still lay in ruins. It looked as though they had been bombed just yesterday.
OBSERVATION: I wondered whether this served as a deliberate reminder of the war. (The photo is of Hamburg after the war. I visited Rostock -- like Hamburg, on the north coast of Germany).
