African Medicine

Last week, for the first time, I saw African traditional medicine in action. A two-year-old child had a heavy cough and fever. They had some paracetamol powder, which they gave her in the morning, with a struggle -- it was hard to administer, and seemed to achieve little. Her grandfather then went searching for a pungent herb called dassiekruie. Her grandmother boiled it, and they gave her the brew in the evening. Almost immediately, she was much better. This lasted until about lunchtime the next day, then the same was repeated. OBSERVATION: In English it is known as grey woundwort.
.
NOTE: I witnessed this a second time in November 2014. The remedial effects of the woundwort were stunning.
