How Big A Leadership?

Someone asked me once in a leadership meeting: how large should our Church leadership be? Why could we not run the Church with a hard core of competent people? I said that, apart from the leadership driving (serving!) the Church, it was there to provide representation. This matters a great deal. Does one have elders and deacons to represent, say, the workers, the women, the youth, and so on? Above all, one needs to understand the spiritual situation of the whole Church. OBSERVATION: Apart from this, I would add that it is important to mentor potential leaders. That is, one would take people onto a leadership -- perhaps merely co-opt them -- not so much for their present leadership ability as their future leadership potential and usefulness to the Kingdom.
