People have reacted with shock when I have said that I did not vote in South Africa's local government elections today. The reason is that I have had up close experience of both of South Africa's major political parties, through ministry, and I just do not feel well thinking about it. Many people idealise the one and vilify the other, and vice versa. My experience tells me no, it's not like that. OBSERVATION: Of course, my experience may not be truly representative. Some of it comes through counselling, and people do not come for counselling with feel-good stories. The names of both local and national government members (MEC's and MP's) have run through my counselling, which means both ANC and DA.
POSTSCRIPT: According to the Council on Foreign Relations, four days after I posted this, "there is little evidence to suggest that the opposition parties are on the whole less corrupt".
