Sea-Bird's Lament

Philosophical Investigations today published a poem by a citizen of Kiribati, Rorine Tioti. Less than 40 words long, it is titled Sea-Bird's Lament. It is illustrated with this 1879 painting by Renoir. OBSERVATION: I am an editor -- one of three -- of Philosophical Investigations. The Kiribati people are threatened with the loss of their homeland. Many have already been resettled through exploitation of their mineral wealth, which stripped away 90% of an island's surface. It is a poem which will be relevant the world over.

POSTSCRIPT: It is good to see that this poem took just one day to enter Philosophical Investigations' Top of the Pops.
