Men and women, in some parts of the world, use different grammars and vocabularies – that is, they use partly different languages, according to their sex. But here is some “useless information” I stumbled upon today while reading a book on sociolinguistics. English-speaking men and women in South Africa, while they have the same language on paper, use markedly different pronunciations. However, we are so used to it here that we fail to notice it. Examples are: gate, can’t, out, and boy. OBSERVATION: The question then is why.
