Every Church runs on rosters: rosters for welcoming people at the door, for leading Sunday prayers, giving notices in Church, looking after the creche, and so on. Where a Church is diverse, this becomes a challenge. I myself have often said, We do not want easy rosters. We want inclusive rosters and representative rosters. "Inclusive" means inclusive of age, gender, race, wealth, length of membership, and more. "Representative" means representative of the congregation God has given one -- not ideal, in the sense of engineering a Church's make-up. OBSERVATION: There are a number of reasons why such rosters may not be easy. In a diverse congregation, depending too on the roster in question, some people cannot be contacted as easily as others, some are not as willing as others, some are not as available as others, some are not as able as others, and so on. My mantra was: Keep trying, keep trying. We want our rosters to be equitable. And keep putting it to the members: Are we equitable? Do you think so?
