Where Is Everybody?

Attending the funeral of a schoolgirl last week -- a large funeral -- it struck me that only two White schoolgirls attended the main event -- no, three, since a third slipped in for a while. Well done to these schoolgirls. This isn't so much a matter of race, but it is something that bothers me about society in general. We care about me, but we have lost our sense of caring for others. We have lost our sense of "doing the right thing". Several times recently, I have felt: "Where is everybody else?" Why are the students alone here? Why are the workers alone here? Why are the elderly alone here? Alone, where there is distress -- and it is (almost) only their own group who care.
