Water Cut

It’s one thing reading about things in the news. It seems quite another experiencing them. I am visiting a major township. This morning the water cut out – just as the woman of the house was tapping an emergency supply. One realises how much we depend on water. One drinks it, cooks with it, washes with it, cleans with it ... I said: “What’s the problem?” Nobody knows. Maybe it’s a fault. Maybe a shortage of water. Maybe people didn’t pay the bill. It happens every day, and nobody knows when – as became clear when the water cut out this morning. OBSERVATION: I had the bright idea of buying water at the local store. I wasn’t the only one. There weren’t any big bottles left.
