Ear Plugs

When visiting South African townships, an essential is ear plugs. These attenuate the noise at night -- of thumping music, barking dogs, roosters crowing, people screaming -- which never stops. Ear plugs are doubly essential if it is a Church visit. Churches often use amplification which could (truly) do instant damage to one’s hearing. OBSERVATION: I have encountered 130 decibels -- greater than the noise of a 747 passenger jet on take-off. But as for noise in general, one gets used to it. It is a cultural thing.
