#FEESMUSTFALL

It is rumoured that the President of South Africa may, against expectations, declare that tertiary education will be free. I firmly support this. This is why: I have seen how desperately parents and students struggle to fund a degree -- while other students must enter indentured labour. However, this is not just about students and their families. I believe it will be good for the nation -- as it has been for other nations. OBSERVATION: While President Zuma has had a grievous effect on the country, that does not mean he is all bad. If he should do this, it could be his legacy -- the corrupt president who goes down forever in history as the one who opened up education. As for the Fees Commission report, which does not surface, such a report will recommend what it wants to. If (for example) corruption were reined in, one could easily fund free tertiary education.
