Travelling In The Mission

This is how we travelled in the mission, in the Pacific. The photo is taken from the deck of the mission ship the John Williams VII. The ship would drop anchor on the ocean-side of an island, and at high tide, we would descend a swinging rope-ladder into an unmotorised boat -- in the foreground. Then the launch -- in the background -- would pull us to the edge of the reef and wheel around -- leaving us to surf to shore with the help of the coxwain (standing). OBSERVATION: This was always great fun, although on one occasion, my mother and sister hit the reef and lost a crate of possessions -- and my father was hurt once when he was trapped between the launch and the John Williams VII.
