I just came across notes of one morning's pastoral counselling. They give some idea what pastoral counselling is about. Three stories:
• J invested R2 million in a business, was now R400 000 in debt and beleaguered, with the bank stalling on a loan. He had thoughts of suicide, and a very worried wife.
• F was in tears because of nasty put-downs she had received about her breeding. She was filled with thoughts of revenge, and was talking of swimming to Robben Island (not the best way to die).
• M’s husband fell off a ladder and broke his hip, now struggling badly to walk. But he didn’t qualify for a disability grant -- so they were out on the street, facing a hostile situation.
