We instructed one of our Church diaconate to write a thank you letter. He ran it past me before he sent it. I said it was a very nice letter -- warm, well put, and spiritually encouraging. Then the recipient of the letter asked to see me. Was I aware that our diaconate was sending out letters like this? One couldn't call this English, she said -- the grammar and spelling were all wrong, in fact not all the words were even English -- and (it was on lined paper) it didn't stay within the lines -- and then, what happened to a printed letterhead? OBSERVATION: I really hadn't paid any attention to those things. I only looked at the "heart" of it. I said so to our complainant. This is the kind of problem quite typical of a minority English-speaking Church. We did resolve, though, to do better.
