Losing One's Mind

In ministry, one often ministers to people who are losing their minds -- in particular through Alzheimer's. Often they know very well that they have a problem. The first person in history to be diagnosed with Alzheimer's, Auguste Deter, knew that she was losing it, and kept apologising for the fact. I have communicated in such situations simply by responding to the conversation which ever way it weaves. Going with the flow -- and ministering. OBSERVATION: My late wife Mirjam's memory, close to her death -- but not because of Alzheimer's -- switched in and out, which was very distressing for her. It happens, too, with Post-Traumatic Stress, but that is temporary.
