Yesterday having been Women's Day in South Africa, there are surely many women who have deserved to be noted, but were not (yet). One is, I think, my late wife Mirjam Scarborough. Just a few months after she obtained her doctorate -- having presented an original Mennonite theology to a leading university in Africa -- she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She led one seminar on the subject -- by her account, hotly contested -- and that was all she still had strength for. In Called to Mission, one sees that she developed a total theology for women. OBSERVATION: It was not merely a dissertation, but an ambitious programme. Knowing that she did not have long to live, she wrote it for the public as much as she did for the university.
