Inordinate Circumspection In Ministry

Over the course of ministry, I have seen a shift in ministry from ... call it natural authority to great circumspection among ministers, even fear of possible mistakes or offences. In fact one finds this in virtually all professions today. In ministry, it sometimes all but paralyses ministers. Yet one can't afford to take too much care in ministry (some care, of course), because one's usefulness often lies in one's courage. Here are some real examples of "circumspection": a minister who will not intervene in domestic crisis for fear of being sued; ministers who will not meet anyone alone, anywhere, for fear of rumours; a minister who will not refer to actual issues in sermons, if they are more recent than, say, 100 AD. And so on -- the list is a long one.
