It's a rugged footpath, built with granite blocks -- very close to my home -- which leads up to Cape Town's lower cable-way station. The trees are those (very probably) introduced by persecuted Christians (Huguenots) after the Edict of Fontainebleau in 1685. OBSERVATION: Curiously, there is an Avenue Fontainebleau in one of the suburbs which was assigned to Huguenots in Cape Town. I think that has to be a (non) historian's mistake.
