Themed Fête

I found this old photo of a Church fête at Sea Point Congregational Church -- a themed fête -- probably 1969. It is my mother in the black dress. OBSERVATION: Fêtes in those days were a major (financial) event. In the ten or fifteen years which followed, there was an exodus of young families from the area, and fêtes declined. But towards the end of my ministry in this Church, fêtes again revived. I would put it down to two things: paradoxically, a lot of small stalls which made small money, and catering more deliberately for an African public.
