LED Light Detectors

An interesting thing about LEDs is that one may use them both as light emitters, and as light detectors. Now one often uses biasing to steady the input of a circuit. But use a LED at the input, and as little as one microamp of biasing completely swamps the LED. However, it can be done! Here, I have used a rarer biasing technique, extremely light. This oscilloscope trace shows a preamp's response to my moving a hand in front of two complementary LEDs. OBSERVATION: The trace is very slightly jagged, due to fluorescent lighting.
