An interesting thing about LEDs is that one may use them both as light emitters, and as light detectors. Now one often uses
biasing to steady the input of a circuit. But use a LED at the input, and as little as one microamp of biasing completely swamps the LED. However, it can be done! Here, I have used a rarer biasing technique, extremely light. This oscilloscope trace shows a preamp's response to my moving a hand in front of two complementary LEDs.
OBSERVATION: The trace is very slightly jagged, due to fluorescent lighting.
