Seminaries prepare one in various ways for ministry. But there was one big thing I didn't expect at all -- and hadn't been prepared for. Even in seminary, one has a fairly sedentary spiritual life. Suppose that it amounts to an hour or two a day, with one's own creative input at services, devotions, and so on being much less than that. But start with ministry in a Church, and one has to deliver creative spiritual input, sometimes, from morning until evening. I came home one evening and said to my shocked wife at the dinner table, "No, not grace now." OBSERVATION: After many years, however, this was not a problem at all.
