The Big Five publishing houses are (said to be) for short: Penguin, Hachette, Collins, Macmillan, and Simon & Schuster. I erred far on the low side when someone asked me about the size of the publishing house which accepted a new book by my sister and me -- namely Wipf & Stock and its imprints. Simon & Schuster, the baby among the Big Five, publishes about 2,000 new titles a year. Wipf & Stock about 1,000. So Wipf & Stock is a major publishing house.
OBSERVATION: And they do not forfeit quality, in turning out that many books. They are "ruthless" in their requirements.
