I've heard it said a few times that my old Church in Sea Point, Cape Town, is penniless. I don't know whether they are wealthy or poor -- but they shouldn't be poor. I estimate that, around the middle of the year that I left them (ten years ago), there was R5.5 million in the bank (I saw the figures). At the end of that year, R4.7 million. From then on, that amount would have been rising with interest.
OBSERVATION: With an average return on investments, that would be R17 million today, less expenses. By Church standards, they should be extremely wealthy.
