This one's a memory. When I was first married to wife E, her parents lived on a farm -- and had no electricity or water in the house. A plug point was hundreds of metres distant, and water about fifty metres away. On cold nights, one crunched over frosty grass to reach the water tap. On hot days, the water was too hot to touch. Light was provided by candles (shown).
OBSERVATION: On retirement, E's parents moved to a township.
