There is a question in the Church which comes up again and again: How closely do we co-operate with Churches which differ from us doctrinally? My own position -- in fact that of my Churches -- has generally been: one may be generous. That generosity is based on what we share in common, which is introducing people to the Kingdom of God. Here are three examples, from various Churches:
1. .Our Church shifted from Reformed to United on the issue of baptism.
2. Our Reformed Church adopted an associate Church which was Pentecostal.
3. Our Reformed Church welcomed lay ministry by various denominations.
OBSERVATION: This is a doctrinal "generosity" that some would refuse to countenance. In our case -- and there are more examples than these -- it bore much fruit. That was without forsaking evangelical roots.
