I am ordained in the Evangelical Congregational Church. In fact I was ordained twice. I was ordained first by the congregation, then by the Ministerial Committee. The spiritual understanding is this: the entire congregation seeks the mind of Christ, is then moved by the Holy Spirit to ordain a person. Thus it is a sacred appointment, from above. In my case, the entire Ministerial Committee (all of the ministers), sought the mind of Christ, too.
OBSERVATION: There have been scurrilous people (two, as best I remember), who have claimed, "He is not a minister." But that is to despise far more than a minister. The photo shows me taking part in an ordination (front, right).
