"On Sunday, our Church assembled a 'new' leadership (it includes many old friends): now two elders and seven deacons -- also two long-standing life-deacons (they have a kind of super-status with the privilege of attending meetings or not) -- and myself. All in all, half men, half women, a wide range of ages, very varied occupations, diverse cultures and backgrounds, and five languages of birth. It is a very special kind of mix that one seldom finds outside a Church. A good foundation for the future -- and, as we believe in the Congregational Church, put in place by the gracious Holy Spirit."

A Good Foundation
I discovered this once shelved post today. I wrote here, on 23 May 2012, that my Church had just elected new elders and deacons. What is significant here is something we hoped for in our Church: a complete Church, not targeting specific demographics, or unable to transcend specific demographics. It also reflects my belief that a Church leadership (rather, diaconate, which is servants) is not put together by anyone but the full congregation, by the Holy Spirit.
