This is likely Southern Africa's oldest imported tree (imported from Holland in the 1600's). It stands in Cape Town's
Company Gardens. It is a Saffran Pear,
Pyrus communis. As in the case of some older humans, it needs some help to stand up. It has undergone major surgery, and is braced and bolted together. Yet as in the case of some older humans, too, it still bears fruit.
