Individuation

It's a philosophical post, this -- about something that has exercised me lately. I am seeking to fill what seems to be a gap in my metaphysic. One of the most important things we do as humans is individuation (in the philosophical sense) -- and yet this receives next to nil attention. We sit down for dinner. We say, this is dinner, and those are dinner plates, and what we are doing is eating. And on the basis of such individuation, we can turn it all into numbers. I had dinner 6 times this week, but missed 1. There were an average 4 plates on the table at any given time, and so on. Some very important things happen in this process of individuation, but ... this receives very, very little thought in general. OBSERVATION: I myself need to look at this in the context of a priori thinking, a weakness which a critic of my metaphysic turned up.
