Every year of my ministr(ies) I held a Thank-Offering, where people came to see the minister in the vestry to give reasons for thanks to God, and leave an offering of thanks. This was held on the Church Anniversary. I read appropriate verses of Scripture, and said a prayer of thanks on people's behalf. The offerings ranged between R10 (less than a dollar) and several tens of thousands of rands. OBSERVATION: It was a tradition of my father's, too (he was a minister before me). It was a pleasure to receive people at a Thank-Offering. Sometimes they were so carried away in their thanks -- even tearful -- that they forgot to give me the offering.
