Locals may have little sense of where the places of the Bible are. But
think for a moment how complicated this is, to get a grip on where, for
example, Midian is -- unless you have been introduced to this systematically. I spoke recently to a local evangelist (formally appointed by his Church to that office). He said that Moses kept sheep near his home town Kuruman (just south of Botswana). I was puzzled. He said: “It’s in the Bible. Moses went to the back of the desert, right? And there were bushes there. We know that, because there was a burning bush. That’s Kuruman.”
