Last week I was asked to lead a two-hour service on four hours’ notice, in Afrikaans. I declined, with regret. I said I would do it next year. Instead I said the opening prayer and benediction, in Afrikaans. OBSERVATION: Such situations are not untypical in South Africa. A Church once invited me, as national Chairman, to lead a major service on 24 hours’ notice – and to rearrange a service I was already scheduled to lead.
