The atmosphere in Church on a Sunday morning can vary a great deal. There may be a lively buzz the moment one walks in -- or the atmosphere may be subdued, even dark. Here's an entry from my journal:
"This morning the atmosphere was subdued, even before I spoke a word -- and it never seemed to take off. It’s strange how an entire congregation can be filled with a certain spirit -- even, it seems, before they enter the doors. What was it today? Was it the blackout that hit the city? Was it the rain? Did something happen that I didn’t see? Was it something on TV? Was it something within the Church? It seems impossible to tell. But one thing is sure, and that is a service is 'a means of grace', through which God does a special work."
