I attended my old city Church this morning. I entered this Church for the first time 50 years ago. The following year it became my spiritual home under the ministry of my father. It had more of a suburban character then. I remember my father as being something of a celebrity at the time. His energy seemed boundless, and he had a powerful diaconate to assist him. The Church, as I remember it, was often crowded out. The halls, too, were crowded for Sunday School, crowded for Youth, crowded for women's meetings -- and there were various big events besides. OBSERVATION: Under his ministry, for the first time in nearly 100 years, the character of the area shifted -- from suburban to urban. I reflect on this distinction at Urban Churches, and other places.
