Evangelicalism

It has slipped in almost without notice. Trump's presidency has become a vehicle for giving evangelicalism a bad name. Google "evangelical", and within two short years, Google's first page describes it as "toxic Christianity", among other things. This is what it is: the New Dictionary of Theology describes it as "going back to the creeds [and] the distinctives of the Protestant Reformation". President Trump has been described as religiously rootless himself -- by CNN, among others. And as to whether those who support him are "evangelical" is all in a muddle. For example, the esteemed (click here) Pew Research Centre publishes statistics on evangelicalism "however defined", which leaves one ... speechless. OBSERVATION: I find few who can define it. In my own Churches the definition has been critical, because members must appoint an evangelical minister.
