Before I Knew

Here's an interesting re-post -- the original post being dated 1 October 2009. I had not the faintest idea that I would marry the person I was posting about. Here is the post then:
"I met yesterday evening with our worship deaconess E, to discuss our October and November worship programme. Among other things, I emphasised the difference between voluntarism on the one hand and the priesthood of believers on the other. Some might consider that (for example) welcoming people at the Church door, taking a reading of Scripture, or joining the Church choir is the priesthood of believers. This is voluntarism, not the priesthood of believers -- because it hardly draws on the ocean of spiritual life and gifting that exist in a congregation. In my meeting with E, therefore, I asked that our choir should not merely render items, but introduce their items with personal words of ministry."
OBSERVATION: Notice another ministry habit here. It has been my custom to teach the thinking behind what is done -- in this case, explaining an important principle of Congregationalism.
